Marketing and Sales office
Vale gained a presence in Switzerland in 2006, with the establishment of Vale International SA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Vale International Holdings GmbH. Based in Saint-Prex, our Swiss office operations have two main areas of focus: commercial and corporate.
Vale’s Swiss office in the town of Saint-Prex is active in the marketing and international sales of iron ore, nickel, copper and coal. The office’s corporate activities encompass the Human Resources, Finance, Risk Management, External Affairs, Audit and Legal areas, among others, contributing to the development of Vale’s businesses and reputation.
Switzerland plays a fundamental role in the global expansion of Vale’s operations. Besides opening up a valuable channel with global markets, the company’s Swiss office helps to maintain closer contact with international customers, monitoring their demands and the performance of contracts.
Vale invested around 50 million Swiss francs to build Vale International SA’s head office in Saint-Prex. Designed by two architects, one Swiss and the other Brazilian, the building was constructed in accordance with ecological criteria and Switzerland’s MINERGIE quality label, which mandates high building standards for the sustainable use of renewable energy and lower negative environmental impacts. The building was inaugurated in 2009.
As in Brazil, Vale has been investing in initiatives to contribute to social development in Switzerland, most notably the Trako sports project and the traditional Luna Classics culture festival. In addition, the company seeks to maintain partnerships with important international associations and organizations based in Europe, such as the EITI, WBCSD, OECD/BIAC, EUROMETAUX, Nickel Institute and the Global Fund.
On the one hand, the company is working to make its operations more transparent, sharing sustainability-based actions and initiatives. On the other hand, it has the opportunity to learn from the best practices adopted by other companies and keep up with key trends arising in the market.
